Two Weeks Until 'Peter Pan'

DAVIS COUNTY FINE ARTS COUNCIL

The Davis County Players have been hard at work all fall on their fall musical production of Peter Pan, which will be presented at the Iowa Theater in Bloomfield Nov. 14-17. Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available at Perfect Touch Wellness Center in Bloomfield and cost $15 for adults and $13 for children 12-and-under. There will also be some tickets available at the door for one-half hour before show times.
Emmy Mote earned the title role of Peter Pan -- traditionally played by a female -- while James Grob will take on the role of Pan's nemesis, Captain Hook.

Peter Pan is a musical adaptation of J. M. Barrie's 1904 play "Peter Pan" and Barrie's own novelization of it, "Peter and Wendy." The music is mostly by Mark "Moose" Charlap, with additional music by Jule Styne, and most of the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
The show presents the classic story of Peter Pan -- the boy who would not grow up -- as he visits the Darling children and takes them on a magical adventure to Never-Never Land, where they meet Peter's gang of Lost Boys and contend with vicious pirates and try to make peace with Indians. There are several musical numbers, both rousing and enchanting.
In the Davis County Players' version -- produced by the Davis County Fine Arts Council and directed by Michelle Grob and Gail Van Mersbergen  -- Captain Hook's sidekick and first mate, Smee, will be played by Wayne Van Mersbergen. The roles of the pirates will be primarily played by adults -- most of them seasoned veterans of Davis County Players' productions -- while most of Peter Pan's gang of "Lost Boys" will be played by grade school and middle school children and most of the "Indians" will be played by high school children. Caitlin Paddock will play Tiger Lily, the Indian princess.
Camille Cook will play the role of Wendy Darling, while the other Darling children -- John and Michael -- will be played by Kolton Strmeler and Brody Humphrey. Kirstina Gratz will play their mother, Mrs. Darling.
Sarah Deaton will be the Darlings' family maid, Liza, while Taylor Mote will play the grown-up version of Wendy and Morgan Klaus will play Jane, the grown-up Wendy's daughter.
Victoria Vannoni will play Nana, the Darling family's dog, while Katie Downing will play Tick-Tick the Crocodile -- Captain Hook's biggest fear.
