It sure didn't seem like it a few years ago, when my meth head neighbors were vandalizing my house, breaking in my back door and threatening to kill me and my daughters -- and the local cops and sheriff categorized it as a "noise complaint." This kind of thing went on over and over again, for nearly a year and a half.
"Yes, I'm at (address withheld). My neighbor appears to be drunk and he's sprayed lighter fluid all over my car port and is attempting to set it on fire. He said he has a pistol and threatened to shoot me if I come outside. Please send a cop over, or I might have to shoot him with my shotgun."
"This is dispatch. Another noise complaint on Chestnut Street. Be advised, this is a feud between nuisance neighbors."
After going directly to the mayor and city council, the district attorney reluctantly filed trespassing charges against one of our neighbors and actually said in open court that we should just learn to "get along" with the offenders, even when they smashed the headlight out of my daughter's car.
But hey, Bloomfield is the safest city in Iowa.
I'm mighty proud.
