The rhythm in this poem comes from putting stress on the long "I" vowel sound. Put emphasis on the long iiiii's when you read this aloud and you will find the unorthodox rhythm -- and you also just might find some signs that it means something other than what you or I originally had in mind. -- IowaScribe
Mine
By JAMES GROB
Little things
Enchanting
To the mind’s eye.
Looking into the sweltering
July sunlight, I can see
A child’s toothless smile; A speck
Of a mole above the curl
In her lip; One touch;
I look away, sweat tastes
The same as tears;
Finally I've
Found something that’s
Mine.
