Open Auditions Sept. 1-3 for Davis County Players' fall musical production of "The Wedding Singer"

Before the Internet. Before cell phones. Before roller-blades. There was a time ...

1985.

Hair was big, greed was good, collars were up -- and the life of the party was The Wedding Singer -- because the music was amazing!

Now you can travel with the Davis County Players back in time, to that amazing year, as the musical romantic comedy "The Wedding Singer" is coming to the Iowa Theatre stage in Bloomfield.

Accomplished theatre master Gail Wortmann returns to the director's chair to bring you this story, based on the blockbuster 1998 Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie, with music written specially for the stage -- along with a couple familiar old tunes. Music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a book by Beguelin and Tim Herlihy. The shows are scheduled to run November 12-15.

Wortmann is sending out an open invitation to individuals of all ages and at all talent levels to take part in this Davis County Fine Arts Council production. Actors, singers, dancers, musicians -- and individuals to help behind the scenes -- are all welcome to get involved.  This play welcomes all adult actors, old and young (including those in high school), but especially those in their 20s and 30s.

Along with the major characters, this play travels to Las Vegas and requires several impersonators.  If you are a look-alike for Billy Idol, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Imelda Marcos, Mr. T, or Ronald Reagan, this musical needs you!

Newcomers are especially welcome.  As a part of this production, veteran members of the Davis County Players will be mentoring those who wish to learn more about various jobs related to the theatre.

Tryouts will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, Wednesday, September 2  and Thursday, September 3.  Interested individuals don’t need to prepare anything in advance; they will be asked to read from the script, sing a simple song, and learn a simple dance move.

Interested potential crew members should come to one of the nights of tryouts and fill out a form for that purpose, or contact Gail Wortmann directly by email at wortmann@netins.net or by phone at 641-799-3050.

Those who cannot participate directly should plan on coming to the show and helping the Davis County Players reach the goal of their #filleveryseat campaign. This is an event you won't want to miss!
